IFSG Sponsored Game

Hi there
The IFSG are sponsoring a game in the New Year (match & date TBC but we’ve already paid up!)
Ilkeston Town FC will be giving the full hospitality treatment to FIVE IFSG members at our sponsored game.
Each of those five will be able to take along a guest of their choice.
A draw will be made at the January committee meeting which will reveal which FIVE lucky members will be well and truly looked after by the club on the day.
If you haven’t joined the IFSG already, now is the time! Anyone who joins up before January 1st 2018 will be eligible for the draw.
Good luck!

The news that Hazelwood Care Home is being earmarked for closure by Derbyshire County Council has come as a great shock to local residents. Many, myself and my fellow committee members, find the situation appalling given that Hazelwood is the sole remaining council-run care home in Ilkeston. We believe that the IFSG is not just about the football but also supporting causes which help the day-to-day lives of our entire community.

The home has provided accomodation for Ilkeston football supporters in the past and one of our club’s biggest fans, Ged Tatham, currently resides there. The stress brought on him by the news has had a negative impact upon him as it has for the other residents and the hard-working staff who provide excellent care. The home lies right in the heart of our largest fan base and any closure would be hugely detrimental to our town and people.
There is already an online petition which has received in excess of 3,000 signatures and more people have signed the petition on Ilkeston Market Place recently. However, more support is needed and I urge all fans who agree that the closure of Hazelwood would be disastrous to sign the petition.

Thanks to the goodwill of Ilkeston Town FC, the petition will be available to sign at the New Manor Ground this Saturday with forms strategically placed inside the ground. We would also love it if Ilkeston Town FC players will help to support our aim to persuade Derbyshire County Council to terminate their plan.

Local politicians including Maggie Throup and Catherine Atkinson are in full support.

Many thanks

Duncan Payne (Chairman Ilkeston Football Supporters Group)

Statement from the Chairman

The demise of Ilkeston Football Club and the subsequent appearance of Ilkeston Town Football Club has led to the Supporters Group committee making a decision to change the Group’s name.

We no longer want our name to be associated with what became a toxic organisation. It would also be disrespectful to the new owner to continue with the existing name.

Therefore we will be relaunching ourselves as the Ilkeston Football Supporters Group (IFSG), the name we wanted at the beginning before we agreed to change it at the request of the previous regime’s owner.

We believe IFSG is an appropriate Group name, a catch-all which takes in both Ilkeston Town FC plus the Juniors and the Ladies sections, and it echoes the community involvement which ITFC plans to move towards.

Please note that this is just a re-brand. All Group funds from the IFCSG will remain.

Many thanks for your continued support.

Duncan Payne

Statement from the Chairman

The news that Ilkeston Football Club has been wound up today is a very sad happening in a series of unpalatable events pertaining to football in our town stretching back ten years.

The truth is that the writing has been on the wall for Ilkeston FC for nearly two years and it hardly came as a huge surprise.
What really matters now is the future of football in our town and I believe that it can only lie in the hands of the people who really care, namely the supporters and the Ilkeston community.
With that in mind, a new community football club is in the process of being formed and we intend to provide the New Manor Ground leaseholder, Erewash Borough Council, with a feasible business plan to return the club to the people who matter the most.
No one can deny that the task will be a big one but with our fan base and the local community at large behind us, we firmly believe that a bright future lies ahead.

The Ilkeston Football Club Supporters Group will be holding its seventh Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 24th May.
It will be held in the Ilkeston FC clubhouse at the New Manor Ground at 8pm.
All members are invited to attend. Any non-members interested in taking out a subscription for the next 12 months are also welcome.

Save Football in Ilkeston Petition

Ilkeston football followers are in danger of losing their football club which lies in the heart of the community. It is crucial that the local council allows the existing football ground to be used on behalf of local people if a new football club needs to be formed. Without the football ground, hundreds of people will lose the enjoyment of watching their local team.
